Raster2CAD converts scanned architectural drawings to CAD and aims squarely at firms digitising legacy blueprints. It reads a wide set of inputs, writes DWG as well as DXF, and separates drawings into semantic layers: walls, doors, windows, furniture, MEP. That layer work is the real thing it sells, and nothing here matches it. Bevell does no layer separation at all yet.
Bevell overlaps on the core job. Upload a scanned plan as PDF, TIFF or an image, get DXF and SVG back, with lettering read as editable CAD text and linework sorted by stroke weight. Converting is free and unlimited, and a file costs £1.99 when you download it. The clearest practical difference is that you can see that number now, whereas Raster2CAD publishes no pricing for its Pro and Ultra tiers at all.
When Raster2CAD is the better choice
Pick Raster2CAD if you are digitising architectural drawings at volume and need them to arrive already separated into walls, doors, windows and MEP. That semantic layering is genuinely their strength, and Bevell does not separate layers at all today. Pick them too if you need DWG rather than DXF, if your sheets run past 50 MB, or if your source files are BMP, GIF or SVG.
When Bevell is the better choice
Pick Bevell if you convert drawings occasionally and want to know the price before you start, or if your work is not only architectural. The same tool handles a photo of a part, a PCB and a floor plan, converting is free and unlimited so you can iterate on settings without cost, and you pay only for files you actually take.

Common questions
- Does Bevell separate walls from dimensions like Raster2CAD does?
- No. Raster2CAD classifies drawing elements semantically, and that is genuinely theirs. Bevell returns linework on one layer today. Sorting by stroke weight, which is what drafting actually encodes, is built and in testing but not switched on, and it would not match them anyway: it can tell heavy from light, never a wall from a door.
- Can I upload a scanned PDF?
- Yes, up to 50 MB. The first page is rendered and traced. Multi-page drawing sets are not supported yet, so a set has to be split first.
- Will Bevell give me a DWG?
- No, DXF and SVG only. DXF opens in every CAD package including AutoCAD, but if your workflow requires DWG specifically, Raster2CAD writes it and Bevell does not.
- What does Raster2CAD cost?
- They do not say. The Lite tier is offered as a free trial and the Pro and Ultra tiers are access by request, with no figures published on their site as of the date above. Bevell is £1.99 per downloaded file, with three free after signing up.
