How it works
Upload
Drop any photo. A part, a sketch on paper, a reference image. PNG, JPG, WebP, PDF or TIFF.
Set scale
Drag a line across a known dimension and enter the real-world size, or skip to use the default scale.
Download
AI generates a clean line drawing, then converts to DXF with accurate dimensions.
Why the output is cleaner
Tracing an image is easy. Producing geometry you can actually build from is the hard part, and it is where most converters give up.
Single lines, not doubled
Strokes are thinned to a 1px centerline before tracing, and contour pairs that are really two edges of one stroke get merged. You do not delete half the geometry by hand.
Arcs and circles detected
Geometry that fits a circle, arc or rectangle is exported as a true entity you can dimension and constrain. Everything else is simplified, not left at one point per pixel.
Correct from the first import
Set one known dimension and everything scales to match. Angles and endpoints are snapped, so edges that should meet actually meet and the profile closes.
Generate as many times as you like. 3 free downloads, then £1.99 each or £9.99 a month for unlimited. If you are signed out, your photo and preview are deleted within 24 hours. Downloaded CAD files stay in your history while your account is active.
Frequently asked questions
How conversion works, what happens to your data, and more.
Most trace the boundary of every dark region, so a drawn line arrives as two contours with a hollow sliver between them, and you delete half of them by hand in CAD. Bevell thins every stroke to a one-pixel centreline first and merges contour pairs that turn out to be two edges of the same stroke, so a line comes out as one line.
Both, once you set the scale. Drag across a dimension you already know, type the real measurement, and every curve is scaled to match so the file imports at true size. Shapes that genuinely are circles, arcs or rectangles are exported as those entities, so you can dimension and constrain them. A freeform outline stays a polyline, because that is what it is.
Direct trace when the upload is already a drawing, scan or PDF: every stroke is followed as it was drawn, with nothing redrawn. Outline only for a photo of a real object: the background is removed and the silhouette and its holes are measured. AI redraw for a complex photo or a rough sketch, where an AI redraws it as clean linework first. That last one interprets rather than measures, so it can shift or drop detail; check the preview when accuracy matters.
Photos as PNG, JPG or WebP up to 10 MB, and drawings as PDF or TIFF up to 50 MB, one page at a time. Line-art conversions return a standard DXF and a true-scale SVG, opening in Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Onshape, FreeCAD, LightBurn and Inkscape. Logo results use colour SVG. On a drawing you can also have the lettering read as editable CAD text rather than traced.
Previews are free and unlimited with no account needed, because being charged to iterate towards a good result is no good to anyone. Downloading is what costs: three free when you sign up, then £1.99 for one more, £5.99 for five, or £9.99 a month for unlimited downloads. Bought downloads never expire. Sketchpad is in beta: it's included with Unlimited, or you can request early access. Packs are for converter DXF and SVG downloads. Sketchpad's AI credits and editing are not included. Sketchpad's AI calls use AI credits, 100 a day with Unlimited or beta access, and tracing is free. A download covers the job rather than the format, so you can take both the DXF and the SVG, and re-downloading a file you already took is always free. If you buy downloads and use none of them, ask within 14 days for a full refund. The preview carries a small watermark; the DXF and SVG you download never do.
Signed-out uploads and previews are deleted within 24 hours. With an account, source files and editor drafts are kept with their conversion; deleting it removes them too. Sketchpad workspaces are saved separately, and removing an item from the canvas keeps it in History. During the preview, contact us for permanent workspace deletion. Direct trace, Outline only and manual editing do not use an external AI provider. AI redraw, Logo conversion/refinement and Sketchpad AI features send selected content to OpenAI. See the Privacy Policy for retention and data controls.
